Here we are at Traveler's Rest in Lolo MT. which is now a brand new state park.
The Corps stayed here in September, 1805 just before the crossing through the
Bitterroots over Lolo Pass into Idaho.

In the distance is Lolo Creek which flows into the Bitterroot River, about 300
yards to the right.  The field shown in this view is where the latrine probably
was, and where traces of mercury from Dr. Rush's "Thunderbolts" were found
just recently.  Dr. Benjamin Rush was the foremost doctor of medicine in the
United States at the time and recommended his strong purgative pills as a
sovereign remedy for most ailments.

In the following picture we see an archeological crew working on the site where
the actual campsite is supposed to have been located, about 100 yards (100 m)
to the left of the picture above.

They have found some uniform buttons at this location, so they think that this
may be where the camp was located.  The folks at the park said that the location
of the latrines with respect to the camp fit well with the requirements stated in
the US Army manual for camp deployment of the time.
